Not Too Late To Make New Year’s Resolutions

What You Need To Know To Make Them Stick And How Human Design Can Help You (2)

We are halfway through January, and a new cycle is yet to begin.

On January 21st we start a new cycle - what the Human Design System calls “Rave New Year”.

The Rave New Year starts when the Sun moves into gate 41 in the Rave Mandala. The 41st gate is called Decrease.

We are still preparing for the coming cycle. Let’s start.

Are you still meditating on last year’s cycle?

Were you fulfilled during the past cycle?

Yes? No?

Let’s learn how to make this year a cycle of awakening and transformation.

Inner Truth and Facts

The Sun had moved to gate 61, Inner Truth, Earth is in gate 62, Facts. Those energies work together to help you recognize the truth about the past cycle by observing the facts.

Let me give you an example:

One of my past year goals was walking 10k steps every day for 90 days.

I did it.

I know I did it because I have the statistics (facts) to back up this truth.

Let me give you another example:

I love painting and crafts.

I did two or three paintings throughout this year. That’s it.

Although I intended to spend more time with my paints and brushes, I didn’t. And that’s another fact.

Now I had allies for both activities. My family supported me in both goals. But I committed to walking every day for 90 days, and not to drawing or even sketching anything for any amount of time.

This is an inner truth I realized based on the exercise I shared with you last week.

Inner truth does not have to be mystical - although it sure can be that.

This is the gate of mystery, or “my-story”.

Inner truth needs to be practical and supported by facts - statistics, repetition, practice - inner truth comes from your life. This is about knowing what is knowable and of value to your life.

Otherwise, it is not your inner truth. It is an illusion, wishful thinking, a dream. And all those are perfectly ok. They can be filed under “fantasy life” - and be a source of inspiration for the next cycle.

I used the past two examples to build my discipline for the coming cycle.

I want to walk every day, to walk 45 minutes at least.

I want to draw, I want to practice 10 minutes every day for a whole year.

There is so much I’d like to do - so I write down everything I want to do or achieve.

And then …

Letting Go

When the Sun enters gate 60 it teaches us to “accept limitations as a first step toward transcendence” It is the gate of acceptance- limitation.

What is interesting about this gate is that it says

this is the way it has always been. This maybe the way it will always be.”

(The Rave I Ching).

This energy is mutative, which means it takes time to see the change in your life. So let go of expectations about what that change needs to be, and do your homework anyway. Take your time to assess the past cycle some more.

The new is born out of the lessons we learn from the past cycle.

So what about those goals you say?

I have learned to accept the limitation of what I am capable of doing during a given time. I have learned to mourn those things that I did not have the energy to pursue the past cycle, and that I may not pursue at all-and to let them go.

Some things are not for you to experience, and that is okay.

Mourn them.

You will have other experiences.

Celebrate your achievements.

Schedule those things you want to pursue in your planner, add them to your phone calendar with reminders.

And here is the twist

Use the energy of limitation to build tiny new habits that support you in achieving your bigger goals. Set and schedule tiny daily practices.

My goal to walk 10k steps daily over 90 days started by building the habit of walking 5 minutes every day, then slowly increasing the dose until I hit my steps and duration goals.

The energy of limitation wants you to start something new and tiny, to have a taste - a glimpse, a sense - of something you think or sense you want to do.

Based on your Strategy and Authority you will be able to see what sticks with you and what does not.

When the Sun moves to gate 41, a new cycle begins.

The energy of Contraction is about potential.

Now consider the different areas in your life that we talked about in the last post, and be ready to recognize what is worth pursuing during the coming cycle?

What do you recognize is lacking in each area of your life and merits applying your energy to?

The energies of limitation (60) and decrease (41) teach us to use the tiniest of steps that will not meet the resistance of your mind and its old comfortable habits.

Those tiny steps create tiny cracks in the wall of resistance to change.

Using the energies of the new cycle you will have built daily habits that support you in achieving your bigger goals.
